Three Reasons Why You NEED Link Building?

A link (or hyperlink) is when one website references another page on that website or to a page on a different website using HTML code. For example, the navigation menu at the top of the blog post has links to other sections of this blog and a link to Indextree’s main website. Link Building is when you try to obtain links for your website.

There are three main reasons why you build links:

1. Search Engine Rankings – Links are seen as votes from the search engines. The better quality links that you obtain, the better rankings you can achieve. Quality has a lot of different meanings. Here are a few things you should look for in a quality link:
a. Relevancy - Is the content of the page you will be linked from relevant to your business?
b. Rankings – Does that website rank for the keywords they are targeting? Are they banned from the search engines?
c. Location of Link – Is the link located on a page that is indexed by the search engines? Are there a lot of links on this page?
d. Age – How old is the website where this link will be located? The older the website the better.
2. Branding & Visibility – Sometimes just appearing is enough to get your brand into your users mind. They may not purchase from you at that moment, but they see your link in a directory they use often or referenced in an article from a website they visit often. Then when they are researching for a product or service that you offer, that user may remember your website or if they see it again it may reinforce your brand as one to consider.
3. Traffic – Links are another form of advertising. Anytime you obtain a link either free or paid, you should ask yourself will that link drive traffic to your website? Is there a value to a link to your website from that website? This is the same type of question you ask when trying to see if the website or page is relevant to your website.

Every link has a purpose, but rankings should not be the only one.
